Dr. Andrea Wieland has sat in nearly every chair in an athletic program: athlete, coach, psychologist, and department leader. She knows how a department works from the inside.

She spent twelve years with the U.S. national field hockey team [CONFIRM] and played goalkeeper at the 1996 Olympic Games [CONFIRM]. She coached at the Division I level at Maryland, Iowa, and Dartmouth [CONFIRM] and won a National Championship [CONFIRM: National Championship-winning D1 coach, school and year]. She earned both a PhD and an MBA at the University of Iowa [CONFIRM] and became a licensed psychologist [CONFIRM]. She has led mental conditioning at IMG Academy [CONFIRM: IMG Academy role and years], worked with the U.S. Air Force Academy [CONFIRM], and served as associate athletic director for sports performance at the University of Pennsylvania [CONFIRM].

She is the author of The Confident Performer (2025) [CONFIRM]. Confidence Ownership Academy grew out of one lesson from all of those seats: an athlete's confidence is shaped by the whole system around them, so that system should be designed on purpose.

Why the Academy

As an athlete, Andrea played inside two kinds of systems. In one, a single coach held all the power, and her national team was ranked eleventh in the world. Six months later, with the same athletes and a different system around them, the team was third [CONFIRM]. She has since worked in nearly every seat in an athletic program. The Academy is built on what that taught her: confidence is a system outcome, so the system is what you design.

11th → 3rd · six months [CONFIRM: competition / medal]

In six months we went from eleventh in the world to third, and won our first medal in a decade.
